Appointment speech of Mr. Cai Jin on the Belt and Road action of pallet sharing (BRAPS) forum
Distinguished Mr. Robert Holliger, Mr. Bernd Doerre and fiends from EPAL,
Nice to meet you online. I feel very honored to be the President of BRAPS, and to work with EPAL on behalf of CFLP. This forum marks the official commencement of BRAPS, and a new phase of cooperation between CFLP and EPAL. Meanwhile, this means that the China-Europe pallet sharing embarked a brand new journey, and a starting point of global cooperation in pallet sector.
We need to discuss the China-Europe pallet cooperation in the context of China-Europe economic and logistic development. Since The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was proposed, The trade between China and the countries along the route was intensified. China-Europe economic and trade development was also accelerated, strengthening the economic cooperation, communication and interaction. The BRI has become an important development opportunity from China but for the world, thanks to its vigor, resilience and potential for development. Logistics plays an important role in international trade as a basic and strategic service industry. In particular, China-Europerope Railway Express developed rapidly under the BRI. At present, a total of 40,000 trips have been made by the freight trains between China and Europe, generating a combined value of more than 200 billion U.S. dollars and connecting up 73 routes in operation across more than 160 cities in 23 European countries. When the pandemic wreaks havoc worldwide, the China Railway Express, with its unique advantages, serves as a new pathway in the economic recovery. As a basic unit in logistics, pallet is an important instrument for multiple transportation modes, including the China-Europerope Railway Express, with its extremely important role in the trade, transportation and China-Europerope economic cooperation along the Belt and Road.
In recent years, the development of Chinese pallet industry laid a good foundation for the continuous expansion of the industry’s capacity, standardization and application scenarios. However, as China experienced the continuous industrial transformation, upgrade and development, the pallet industry also came to transformation and upgrading period, which is a new moment for foreign cooperation.
Ⅰ. The huge market has higher demand for the pallet industry. As the world's largest developing country, China maintained steady and fast development for years. Its total logistics has exceeded 300 trillion RMB, while the size continues to grow. For pallet, the basic instrument in the industry, not only does it create a broad space for development, but also pose new requirements and challenges on the way forward.
Ⅱ. The pallet industry will play an even more significant role in the development of Chinese and international logistics. At present, China’s logistics industry has shifted to high-quality development, featuring mechanization, automation and intelligent growth. Pallet will be the most basic and indispensable element in the future supply chain innovation, and an important carrier in intelligent mobility. Its recycle, mutual recognition and sharing will play an important role in China-Europerope trade, and in increasing the efficiency of logistics in China-Europerope.
Ⅲ. The improvement and application of pallet standards will accelerate the international pallets sharing. China always attaches importance to the development of pallet standardization system. In the past two years, it further enhanced the review and research of basic pallet standards, especially the research in the alignment of Chinese and European pallet standards. Such research is important for the recycling of standard pallets in China, and the alignment with international pallet standards. Also, it serves as the foundation for the international pallets sharing.
Ⅳ. Digitalized development accelerates the upgrade of pallet industry. The industry has shifted to socialized and intensive development, and continuously strengthened its basic capacity. It applied intelligent technologies, and improved the convenient production and utilization of pallet, enabling the rapid development of pallet recycling, sharing as well as intelligent pallet. Europe has mature experience in this field. In the pallet-related cooperation, China and Europe could benefit and complement each other, in order to further boost the digitalization of the pallet industry.
At the moment, BRAPS marks an important step in promoting the development of China-Europe trade and logistics, and also corresponds to the new development trend in the new era. BRAPS is not only a pioneer in global pallet sharing, but also an important means in boosting the internationalization of logistics and the integration of supply chain. Through BRAPS, I hope we can help to enhance the connection between BRI and European development strategies, and the China-Europerope connectivity.
As an industrial association in the logistics sector, CFLP dedicates to facilitating the development and application of pallet in China. The initiative of BRAPS will push the pallet internationalization to a new period, and will serve as an important measure by CFLP in the international cooperation in logistics and supply chain. As a leader in the European pallet industry, EPAL has rich experiments in pallet production, management and operation. It maintained close communication and connection with CFLP for years, and is an important partner of us. We hope that both parties would respect each other, and join hands to promote the development of China-Europerope pallet in the future cooperation. We will develop a new way of international pallet sharing applicable to the new era in order to facilitate the globalization of logistics and supply chain.
